UNIVERSITY
FINAL YEAR PROJECT
The design for this project was created for individuals transitioning out of the foster care system. My aim was to create a space where they feel secure and supported as they navigate towards independence. Located within a housing estate in Glasgow, 7 houses were selected to be used for this project while the others remained for the wider public. This inclusive approach ensures that the community doesn't feel isolated and encourages a strong sense of belonging. In addition to providing accommodation, these houses offer spaces dedicated to support and guidance, along with social areas for interaction and connection.
The Main Space was designed with the residents overall mental wellbeing as the top priority. It provides a safe and peaceful atmosphere, encouraging individuals to seek assistance whenever required. Given the increased risk of mental illness among those transitioning from foster care, it was essential to create a space that offers both support and guidance for their future paths.
The social and entertainment area is designed to facilitate connections among residents who share similar circumstances. It also offers amenities such as a gym to promote physical well-being and spaces that encourage social interaction to support mental health, combat loneliness, and foster a sense of community.
To maximize space in the two-bedroom apartments, I designed a layout similar to bunk beds. This configuration offers privacy for each occupant and includes built-in storage options.
