TRANSITIONAL HOME FOR FOSTER YOUTH
The design was created for those who are transitioning out of the foster care system. The aim was to create a space where the occupant feels safe and secure, while providing guidance and support they need to move onto the next stages of independency.
The site is a housing estate located in Bearsden, Glasgow. It was selected to create a sense of community within the space. The idea was demonstrated by selecting seven houses on the lot. It is not only a space for those who have aged out of the foster care system but also for other members of the public, thus incorporating them into a community that does not feel self-contained and creates a sense of belonging. The houses provide accommodation as well as socialisation and guidance spaces.
